The Face of America

On the BBC: A 56-year-old man from the Midwestern US state of Wisconsin has been arrested after shooting his lawn mower in his garden because it would not start.

“It’s my lawn mower and my yard, so I can shoot it if I want.”

We have suicide gunmen. Are we really all that different?

Because, really, if you keep giving people guns, they will keep shooting things with them. And, occasionally, those things will be other people. Why? Because it’s easy.

Sure, we will use other ways to kill people. Everyone has a car, those are pretty efficient killing machines when plowed into a crowd at high velocity. But they do have another purpose besides putting a giant hole in something. Even so, there are alternatives, like a good mass-transit system. Ask a European. How many headlines have you seen lately coming from a European country about a Gunman and several lives? No, you hear things like “Knife hostage situation rectified- no serious injury reported.” Mostly, you hear headlines like “5 civilians gunned down at mall” coming from two places: The U.S., and warzones/occupied territories.

Someone noticed!

Mass shootings are not particularly rare in the United States, where the gun-ownership lobby is politically influential and gun control is far less strict than in many countries.

This is a test of the emergency boredcast system. Had this been an actual alert, you would have been bored.
